CLUB RECORD ALERT"🚨"

Today club runner Ronan O’Hara crossed the finish line at Barcelona Marathon in 2:29:29""

Securing a club record for St. Peter’s AC and breaking the elusive 2:30 threshold that categorises him in the sub-elite class.

Ronan, who is forever humble about his achievements, kept a steady pace for most of the race (an average of 5 minutes and 40 seconds per mile!) before hammering home the last 0.4 mile in 5 minutes and 7 seconds. Absolute class "👌"!

The day was very much a family affair with brother Niall also nailing his first sub 3 marathon at the race "💪".

Well done to both of you from all at SPAC. We are so proud of you!

International woman’s day

First up, Patricia O’Hagan, a long-time St Peter’s athlete, marked the day in style by completing her first-ever half marathon, clocking a brilliant 1:28:12 at this week’s Bohermeen AC Half Marathon. Patricia is a driving force in our ladies XC team and was instrumental in their league and championship wins, has claimed countless 5K and 10K titles, and took the top spot at WAAR 2025. She leads from the front in every sense.""

"" celebrating the phenomenal Kate Mulholland, a lifelong member of the club who excels at every distance – track, XC and the marathon. Kate was a key member of the St Peter’s XC champions and has represented Northern Ireland in XC. This week she showed her exceptional form once again with a superb 1:23:23 at Bohermeen HM. Kate seems to get faster every year, and we can’t wait to see what comes next.

Also a big round of applause for Maeve Haughey, one of the club’s newer additions, who brings outstanding enthusiasm and dedication to every start line. This week she impressed with a strong 47:21 at the Carlingford 10K. Maeve represents St Peter’s at senior level and is also an essential part of the team behind our weekly run reports.

Here’s to Patricia, Kate and Maeve – three inspiring women who continue to lift the whole club. "🤍""🖤"

And well done to everyone who raced or parkran this week, from our juniors at XC and junior parkruns to our seniors across parkruns and road races. Your commitment, spirit and teamwork shine through every time you pull on the St Peter’s vest.

– Leg 5 Complete

St.Peters Seniors Patsy Donnelly, Dwyer O Connor and Paul Casey -3 runners with nearly 100 world major marathons and nearly 200 calendar years between the senior masters of st Peter’s, completed the African leg of their big 7 continent challenge in the Moroccan city Marrakesh ! "🇲🇦"""

Once again ignoring common sense and proving that determination beats age… just about.

The run featured steady pacing, heroic endurance, and frequent discussions about knees, hips, and where the nearest toilet might be. Despite this, forward progress was achieved and spirits (not sprints) remained high"🏃‍♂️"With five continents down and two to go, the lads continue to defy logic, gravity, and their own joints.Antartic penguins beware!

As the final chapter closes on another incredible Rock the Lough & Lakes Run, we’re proud to share the impact this year’s event has made — far beyond the finish line.

On behalf of St Peter’s AC, Club Chairperson Paul Casey was delighted to present cheques of £2,100 each to our chosen charities:

These funds were raised through our annual Rock the Lough running event and were made possible through the incredible generosity of our local businesses, many of whom support us year after year, the runners who travelled from all over the country to take part, and the dedicated St Peter’s AC club members who worked tirelessly to organise and deliver another outstanding event.

Together, this shows the true power of community — when people come together with a shared purpose, the impact reaches far beyond race day.

Although, not quite the year club runners had hoped for with numerous running events cancelled including the yearly pilgrimage to the Dublin City marathon, 2021 did have some notable highlights. ""

After a 15 month lay off, we did get back to covid restricted training in April with a lot of runners chomping at the bit to get going again. We welcomed new members including Fiona now working on her full club coaching badge.

""""We also encouraged our younger members to join our run for fun training now taking place during club sessions. Uncertainty was the buzz word for a lot of our usual runs in our diary although the major events went ahead. We did have strong teams out for London, Larne, Armagh 10 miler, Seeley Cup and the end of year Lough 5.

""""Club records came tumbling down in half, full and ultra marathons and the personal performances of Gillian, Jenna, Stephen, James, Caomihe and Caelin have made us all very proud to be part of this very special club where all our runners no matter what age, gender, speed, time, distance all have their place and and personal performance is the real winner. We look forward to a new year and welcome all back this week. The team wish everyone all the very personal best. Run on 22!

The senior master of the club Mr Paul Casey had an amazing week at the end of September by completed the Berlin marathon in 3:54. No mean feat as Berlin was sweltering in 24 degrees, with no real activity to speak of in the last 18 months this was some run, ""but not content with that he took to the London Marathon the following Sunday and came home in a new PB of 3:45! This was an amazing achievement for 2 world majors in just 1 weeks, Paul well on the way to getting the elusive World Abbot Major medal!

""Well done to the machine, David Hamilton, who recently done a 2:30 marathon run in his own social lockdown on the treadmill in the house…class or what? Great David!

We hope you are all keeping well out there. Be safe and train well. training on your own, or, if you’re lucky enough, you can train with a family member. If you can’t manage the sessions from the plan Dwyer sent you (which I hope you can) don’t just do long runs. You have worked so well on your fitness levels by doing our sessions on Tuesday and Thursday and you don’t want to let your efforts go to waste.""

Fartlek sessions are a great and easy to manage alternative. You could use the lamp posts along the roads to guide your training. So, after a good warm up (a couple of kilometres), you could run at a comfortable pace for, say, 3 lamp posts, then sprint for the next one. You can add lots of variety to your workout, for example, run 1, sprint 1; run 2 sprint 1; run 4, sprint 2, and so on.

Your speed on the sprint will determine how many of these speed runs you will do and how much of a recovery you will need between reps. You might find yourself needing a slow jog recovery. You can then run for as long or as short as you want until your session is finished.

If Anyone Needs the current sessions planned for training please message the page. Keep the motivation up folks and it won’t be long until we are all back as a club to cheer each other on!
